Business professionals need to be more mobile than ever as the world is becoming one large marketplace. Small business owners wear several hats within their organization and need the ability to stay mobile as well. This makes mobile communication extremely important to all business professionals.

Image via Flickr

There are three communication tools that no small business owner should ever be without. Once you have mastered these forms of mobile communication, you will find yourself better equipped to take on the business world.

Online Faxing

Online faxing with Metrofax is an extremely important business communication tool for any business professional. If you deal in signed agreements, need to exchange documents that have handwritten notes on them, or need to find a way to get a document to someone that does not have access to the Internet, then online faxing is a tool you must have.

Any communication contingency plan that does not include online faxing is incomplete. You should never assume that everyone has (or wants to have) Internet access in the business world. Good planning means being ready for anything, and that is especially true with communication.

Email

There are several reasons why email is so important to the business world. The main benefit of email is instant communication at no cost. The savings over using standard mail postage rates and packaging up mail parcels is significant. You can send packages of documents instantly for free that could add up to hundreds of dollars a year in postage savings.

Another benefit of emailing is that it allows you a convenient way to track all of your online conversations. There is always a log of the emails you have sent and received for you to refer to when you are trying to trace the origin of a statement. You can also save your sent emails to confirm exactly what you said and when you said it.

Videoconferencing

Small businesses tend to have small travel budgets. That is why videoconferencing is so convenient for small businesses. You can have an entire face-to-face meeting with anyone in the world without ever leaving your office.

Another advantage of videoconferencing is that it allows you to improve your customer service levels. Rather than having your technical support people talk to your clients over the phone, you can use videoconferencing and show your customers how to solve their problems.

Communication is critical in business and small business owners need to be as versatile with their communication options as possible. By using email, online faxing and video conferencing, the small business owner can literally be two places at the same time.

Now that the holidays are over, the credit card bills are rolling in. Maybe you’re wondering how to catch up on bills you neglected, so you could attend parties, make delicious dinners and buy gifts for your loved ones. Perhaps unexpected events caused you to get in a financial bind. When traditional lending avenues seem blocked, you may want to consider the online lending industry. To protect yourself and your hard-earned cash, follow these tips when shopping for an online loan.

Image from Flickr

Check Your Credit Score

How is your credit score? Your credit score will have an impact on what types of loans you’ll be eligible for and what interest rates you may secure. Your credit score can decide if you need collateral to secure the loan.

Research

There are many types of loans available online. These can range from online installment loans for emergency situations, such as cash advances for the family member who is in the Emergency Room or payday loans, and many more. Asking some questions can help you decide which loan is right for you.

How long do you have to repay the loan? If you need some quick cash for a minor emergency and need just a little time to come up with the money, consider a payday loan or cash advance. These types of loans were created for these types of emergency circumstances.

Compare Lenders

Once you decide which type of loan you need, you must sift through the plethora of lenders. After finding potential lenders, you have to narrow down the list to one. Start by researching each lender through the Better Business Bureau or the Consumer Federation of America. If you find nothing at either, a search in your favorite search engine can yield a lot of information.

Remember that a few negative comments are possibly the result of a bad experience, but multiple complaints raise red flags. Ask around about companies your friends or family may have used; personal references give the best and most accurate information.

Income versus Output

Before signing the dotted line on any loan, you have to really consider a few key things. Is the money you’re borrowing for something you need or something you want? That Mexican vacation may seem necessary, but it’s not nearly as important as paying off delinquent medical bills.

If you’re using collateral, consider what may happen if you default on the loan. Not that you would intentionally default, but with unemployment near ten percent, you have to consider the worst-case scenario. Home- or auto-secured loans can have detrimental consequences if payment isn’t made. In this economy, you should consider job security, raises versus inflation, and benefit expenses into your decision.

Online lending has revolutionized the borrower’s market and opened many doors for people who need a little extra help. Using common sense along with these tips will help you make the best decision.

What other things should one consider when getting loans online? Share your thoughts in the comments section.

My mother isn’t on Facebook because my younger sister won’t let her get one. In fact, my sister promised that she would stop talking to our mother completely if she (our mother) ever tried to ‘friend’ her. Although my family is an amusingly extreme example, I often hear Facebook etiquette horror stories from my friends, and have experienced my share of adults being uncomfortably obtrusive Online.

It’s a Public Space

You’re probably thinking, “Youth today just don’t understand that social media is a public space. If you didn’t put embarrassing photos of yourself up, then there wouldn’t be problem.” To a point you are right — young people do often post embarrassing (potentially drunken) pictures of themselves online and they shouldn’t. However, for the most part, people seem to have an intuitive grasp of what is — and is not — acceptable social media interaction, at least with each other, that adults simply lack. Therefore, allow me (as a member of the “under 30″ generation) to give you some basic pointers that the youth in your life will thank you for.

Practice Restraint: For some reason many adults (including my grandmother) seem to think it’s acceptable to go through your page and “like” or comment on everything. So, let me just tell you, that’s not OK. It’s fine to congratulate someone for an accomplishment, but try to reel in your enthusiasm.

Know Who You’re Talking To: Under no circumstances should you like or comment on a wall post of one of your child’s friends if you do not have a personal relationship with the post’s originator. If you know them it’s probably fine, but one of the most common online manners breach is, “your mom (grandma) ‘liked’ my wall post and we’ve never spoken… It was very awkward!”

Only Offer Encouragement: It’s also never a good idea to rebuke your child on Facebook. Remember, this is a public space. You wouldn’t yell at your child (or young adult) in the middle of a crowded mall so don’t do it in front of their 300 closest friends! For example, my cousin likes to play casino games online. When he posted about his winnings (clearly happy about them) his dad made a detracting comment, creating an unnecessarily hostile situation.

Image via Wikipedia

Communication Is Key

This may sound obvious but: talk to your child! find out what embarrasses them (or their friends) and then don’t do it! Most kids understand that all you want is to connect with them, keep up with their news when they leave the house, and to simply be a part of their lives. So, communicate and follow the rules your child gives you so that you don’t get banned!

If you have recently filled out a handful of job applications, then you may have noticed how demanding some corporations are getting – even without reading the fine print. Many online applications expect you to disclose all of your personal information, and undergo seemingly irrelevant testing, like a credit check. All of which should make you wonder what they’re searching for when they’re asking you to sign half your life away before even offering even extending an offer for the job.
Seemingly innocent things, like online job applications, are one of the scariest realities we face today when it comes to our privacy. If you want to get to know everything about someone these days, it’s as simple as forming a business, creating an application form and offering a reasonable wage. Every day we give away things like our SS number, maiden names, addresses, job histories and driver’s license numbers – all the components of identity theft wrapped into one neatly packaged job application.

Unfortunately, the majority of the private information requested on the typical job application is a necessity. However, you should always take the time to inquire how the company is protecting your identity – even if you’re handing your application to the manager in person. In fact, it’s even recommended to walk in and ask if your application is still on file a couple of weeks after sending it in just to make sure it hasn’t been lost. Always keep in mind that there are plenty of other legitimate opportunities out there, especially if an application is asking you to surrender more information than you feel comfortable with.
