Future of Communications

What does the future hold? Can we really predict what it will be like in ten, twenty or fifty year’s time? Who knows, we can have a pretty good guess but we’ve been wrong before. Aren’t we all supposed to be living in space by now, eating pills and travelling by hover scooter? Well, maybe some bits aren’t actually that far off.

Future of Communications

Communications have come on in leaps and bounds in the last hundred years or so, and even further than that if you start with the cavemen drawing pictures on their walls out of the blood of savage beasts – no way really to talk about the wife. Some natives have really had quite ingenious methods of communication, the Native American Indians were, after all, masters of the smoke signal “Help, my blanket’s on fire” and all that, not to mention the bongo drums and the old mirror in the sunlight trick (that’s probably how he set his blanket on fire in the first place).

In more recent times man has ingeniously mastered telegrams, telephones, radio signals, and now the internet. What next? Have you noticed that as things get smaller they get stronger and more advanced? Remember those computers in the sixties, they took up the size of a family house, and were only glorified calculators really (oops, ready for some come back on that one). Well, now we’ve got desktops, laptops, palmtops, handhelds, who’d have thought?

So what’s next? Well, all I know is that there are millions of boffins all around the world trying to make the computers better, faster and smarter, I just hope that one prediction doesn’t come true, we’ve all seen Terminator right. Somebody unplug Skynet quick, before it’s too late.

“I’ll be back.”
