Privacy is almost impossible these days. People can seem to find almost anything they want online and that’s why it almost impossible to keep your life off it. The internet is a big market for online billing, online shopping, and crowded with sites for online learning like earnmydegree.com, which require a lot of personal information that hackers could easily snatch before you have time to set your life to private. With cell phones, digital cameras, and wi-fi almost everywhere there is nothing that won’t catch the eye of the camera and end up haunting you for years. So how do you embrace the digital age without getting your privacy taken away? How do you keep your life offline in a world that is permanently online? While there is no way to protect every aspect of your life, there are ways you can minimize your life publicly.

Don’t Take the Wrong Photos

This doesn’t even pertain to sexually explicit photos but rather photos that may have you doing something else like making an obscene gesture or simply holding a drink in your hand. They might seem like innocent photos taken all in good fun but there is nothing fun about the possible repercussions of that. So when the camera is being passed around don’t hold the drink and don’t pose with anyone else who does. It’s a good rule of thumb to keep you from looking bad.

Say No To Your Friends

Unless the picture signifies some amazing moment, there is no photo that a friend has to put online. Have a conversation with that friend and tell them that you would rather they keep the photo offline. You’d be surprised how nice your friends will be about it. You’ll also be surprised how much more privacy you gain by keeping your photos off the internet.

Be Wary of Social Media

Social media sites like Facebook and Twitter post your every thought for all the virtual world to see. If you’re really serious about your privacy, think twice before signing up. If you must join, think twice before posting anything that could be broadcast to your network.
